Manuel López Bellido, Born in Granada in 1939, is recognized world-wide as one of the leading luthiers of the Granada school of guitar building. At an age of 16, he started working at the workshop of Eduardo Ferrer to learn the craft of artisan guitar making. Once his military service was over, he opened his own guitar workshop sharing with another legendary master guitar maker Antonio Marin Montero. Manuel builds about 20 to 25 instruments a year, more flamenco than classical guitars. Manuel Bellido is most famous for his flamenco guitars being played by some of the best top flamenco players in the world such as Juan Carmona, Habichuela and Tomatito. Using the traditional method of construction, Manuel Bellido his flamenco guitars are inspired by those of Antonio Torres, though he has developed a dozen or more distinctive innovations himself. Manuel Lopez Bellido has also made some really remarkable renaissance guitars, vihuelas and 10 stringed concert classical guitars.
